Start with page roles
Identify hubs, detail pages, guides, conversion pages and utility routes. Links should help people move between these roles, not distribute arbitrary authority according to a fixed formula.
Create durable paths
Important pages need crawlable links from navigation, parent hubs or strong contextual sources. Avoid depending on site search, filters or client interactions as the only discovery path.
Write anchors for context
Use language that explains the destination naturally. Repeated exact-match anchors are unnecessary, while vague labels such as learn more make the relationship harder to understand.
Find structural gaps
Review orphan pages, excessive depth, broken links, redirecting links and templates that create hundreds of low-value connections. Combine crawl evidence with actual page importance.
Govern new publishing
Every brief should name its parent hub, related pages and the older pages that should link to the new resource. This keeps the content library connected after launch.
